Holding TY BCom paper again will cost Maharashtra Rs20 lakh

Re-examination of MHRM paper would be a costly affair. The state government has to spend at least Rs20 lakh for conducting the exam again for all 85,544 students of TY BCom.

According to exam house sources, expense per student per paper is approximately if Rs6. This includes printing of exam paper, expenses on supervisors and transporting the papers to and from the centres. The cost increases by Rs1-2 for remote centres in Sindhudurg and Konkan. OMR answersheets introduced a year back cost Rs17 totaling it to Rs23 per student. This amounts to Rs20 lakh for 85,544 students. The college has been fined by the University by Rs.1 Lakh.

Top officials said had the college admitted its mistake on March 27, the day it wrongly distributed the paper, 75% of cost (OMR sheets and transportation) could have saved. Ex-senate member Parag Vedak said, “The V-C should resign on moral grounds now.”

According to the report of the three-member probe panel, BNN College supervisors had denied the leak before the committee. As students could not be contacted, it drew the conclusion by checking OMR March 27 answersheets of students at the centre where 510 students have changed the code. The committee has imposed a fine of Rs1 lakh on the college and recommended that after BA exams, the college will be debarred as centre for three years. Prof DS Bhangre, supervisor prof RN Deshpande and prof Jadhav were held responsible and shall be suspended by the college. A police complaint would be filed against them and a cybercrime complaint would also be filed to verify SMS circulation. The CID will also investigate if there is any deliberate attempt to malign the varsity’s image. BNN college managment would now appoint a retired HC judge to investigate the matter.
