High cut-offs in 2nd list put BMM, BMS out of reach

High cut-offs in 2nd list put BMM, BMS out of reach

If you have scored below 80% and belong to the open category, chances of getting admission to professional degree courses like Bachelor of Mass Media (BMM) or Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) in the city’s elite colleges are negligible.

With a marginal dip in cut-offs in the second merit list, particularly for self-financing courses, several colleges said admissions to these professional courses could be wrapped up in the second list itself and third list may be unlikely.

The list, put up on Friday, saw cut-offs of professional courses dip by 0.4-3%.

The second list is an indicator of actual cut-offs because students tend to apply to multiple colleges in the first round. The cut-offs are still high, 90-85% in sought-after colleges. Exceptions were seen in conventional BA or BSc where cut-offs had come down by 10-15% in a few colleges.

At St Xavier’s College, while no seats were left in BMM, the BMS cut-off dipped by 0.4-3.1%, while it was down by 0.5% in BA. “A third list is unlikely. Most seats are already taken,” said Father Frazer Mascarenhas, principal of the college.

At KC College, while admissions were closed for BCom, cut-offs dipped by 1 to 3% in other courses. “Though not many seats are left, we cannot say for sure whether there will be a third. However, in BA, there won’t be a third list,” said principal Manju Nichani.

HR College principal Indu Shahani said they wouldn’t have a third list as the dip was between 0.67-5.2%.

The situation was similar at Jai Hind College where the cut-off for one seat in BMS is 90.2%. “There are 4-5 seats left in BMM and 6-7 in BBI (in open category). There could be a third list for BA, BCom, but only if there are withdrawals,” said Kirti Narain, college principal.

At Hinduja and NM colleges, no seats were available in BCom. Students can pay fees till June 22. The third list will be on June 22.
