The High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune, celebrated National Technology Day on Wednesday.

College of Engineering (Pune) director, AD Sahasrabuddhe, was the chief guest at the function, attended by scientists and technologists of the lab.

Sahasrabudhe spoke about the top ten challenges before the country: education, health, employment, good governance, delivery system, agriculture production and food security, infrastructure, water and  environment management, storage and preservation, and energy management.

HEMRL director A Subhananda Rao said knowledge is powered by science and technology, and technology is nurtured by innovative creation through research and development.

“Hence, Technology Day reminds us to concentrate on our objectives and nurture new technologies. It is essential to harness the talent of youngsters,” he said, and highlighted the recent Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) achievements like development of strategic systems such as the Agni, Prithvi and Akash missiles and the Arjun main battle tank.

As a part of the celebrations, scientists and technologists of labs presented technical papers and scientist PK Pandey bagged the first prize.

The coveted rolling trophy for the best technology of HEMRL was awarded to joint director PP Singh and his team for work on ‘Multiple casting of rocket motor’.
