Gujarat University V-C presents Rs93 cr budget for 2012-13

Vice-Chancellor of Gujarat University (GU) Dr Parimal Trivedi on Saturday proposed Rs 93 cr university budget for 2012-13. This is Rs 27 cr more than the budget presented in 2011-12 which was Rs 65 cr.

Dr Trievdi states that the increase in the budget is due to the increase in the examination expenditure which has increased after introducing semester system exam known as choice based credit system at the GU. He said, of the total proposed expenditure, around Rs 35 cr to Rs 40 cr would be spent in exam related expenses.

An official release from the member of the executive council Manish Doshi states that in the budget they have also proposed to give scholarships to students on the basis of merit and not on caste.”The university has spent Rs 5cr  from research grant and earned Rs 12cr from convention centre last year. Moreover, it has also earned Rs 25 cr from increase in  fees,” he told the media.

This year he said the draft of the budget as proposed and sanctioned by the syndicate meeting on Saturday will see increase in provision for sports related activities and youth festival and financial help given to the host college for the latter.

Doshi said that temporary officials at the varsity should get Rs 3500 and not Rs 2500 as per the current system. Class 4 workers at the KS School of Management will be increased. He has also said that proposal to give pension benefit to senior faculties and benefit of the Sixth Pay commission should be given to 167 officials was also made.
