Gujarat University to help students secure loans to buy laptops

Here is some good news for students studying in various postgraduate departments of Gujarat University. The students will now be able to purchase laptops and desktop computers on loan without asking for help from their parents. GU will play the role of facilitator to get the computers for the students. On the eve of the meeting of Gujarat University court (senate) on Sunday, Parimal Trivedi, vice-chancellor of the university made some significant announcements.

Trivedi said, "GU will help students in getting branded laptops and desktop computers on loan. We will be playing the role of a link between students, nationalised banks and computer agencies. PG students can avail the loan for buying branded computers from nationalised banks and repay the loan after they complete their studies and start earning. The duration for the repayment of the loan will be maximum seven years. All PG students will be given this facility. We will extend this scheme later to the students of affiliated colleges as well."

Apart from this, Trivedi also announced some other decisions. He said, "GU will be issuing monthly and annual coupons for using wi-fi facility for students. Charges will vary from Rs300 to Rs3000. Students can utilise the wi-fi facility with these coupons."

Moreover, university will also be giving fee waiver maximum up to Rs10,000 to meritorious students coming from financially poor background, who are studying in the self-finance courses run by the university like MSc in climate change, MSc in human genetics, MSc in bio-diversity, MSc in bio-informatics, MSc in geo-satellite communication and MBA (port management) courses. Trivedi said, "These fee waivers will be given to the students from poor financial background, who have BPL cards with them."
