Gujarat University senate polls: Medical, dental candidates win

Results for two of the 10 students' representative seats in Gujarat University senate were declared on Friday by the university authorities.

Sahil Nitinkumar Shah from medical faculty and Gunjan Ashokbhai Kanodia from dental faculty were declared winners from their respective faculties.

Thursday was the last day to submit the candidature form for the upcoming student senate and welfare board elections of the GU. On Friday, both the candidates were declared uncontested winners.

After the results, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) claimed that both the candidates won uncontested due to their efforts.

"This is for the first time that our members got elected without any interventions from the Deans of these faculties," Chirag Shette, city secretary of ABVP, said.

However, neither of the candidates want to be associated with any particular union. "For us, all are equal. We received support from both the unions, so we are with ABVP as well as with National Students Union of India (NSUI)," said Sahil Shah, winner from the medical faculty.

Results of the remaining eight seats for students in the senate will be decided through the election process and polling will be held on February 13. The university has registered about 3400 voters for these elections.
