Gujarat kids paint their way into Guinness book

Vadodara: It was a riot of colours in Vadodara when more than 8,000 children from different schools of the city on Friday sketched 4.3 km long painting on the theme of traffic. The children set a world record by painting using 1,500 litres of paint in two hours at the event which was organised to mark the 140th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

City mayor and BJP MP Balkrishna Shukla, commissioner of police and collector were also present at the event which was organised by the Vadodara Marathon Company (VMC).

Talking to DNA, chairman of fund raising committee of VMC and managing director of Jyoti Ltd, Tejal Amin said, "The aim of organising such an event was to spread traffic awareness in the city. Currently Philippines holds the record for the world's longest painting (2.95 km canvas) which was completed in 6 hours painted by 2,800 students."

Traffic situation in Vadodara in 2020, future transportation system, traffic jams, ideal traffic junction and impact of poor traffic system were some of the scenes created in the painting as part of the theme.

"I appreciate efforts of VMC in initiating a project on traffic and iam happy that such a
huge number of children took part in the event. This will find a place in the Guinness Book of World Records," City mayor and BJP MP Balkrishna Shukla said.

Judging the paintings, a member of the traffic committee, Satyen Kulabkar said, "The children have depicted the dismal situation of traffic in the city with the help of paintings.
Talking to DNA, Hitesh Rana of Sarjan art gallery said, "Children have done a marvelous job. They have tried to show the traffic situation from the entire route from Ajwa to railway station incorporating all the monuments and landmarks that comes in the route."
