Gujarat education board want a computer teacher in each school

The general board meeting of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHEB) on Wednesday gave the nod to some important proposals to the state government.

The elected members of the board discussed the requirement of having separate computer teachers in all the secondary and higher secondary schools and also a post of additional examination secretary to share the increasing work burden after the implementation of the semester examination system.

In the first general body meeting after RR Varsani took over as chairman, elected members agreed to send both the proposals to the state government for sanction. In the meeting, the members discussed that though computer is a mandatory subject in standard 9th and optional in 10th and 11th, schools across the state have to rely on teachers of other subjects who have some knowledge of computers to teach the students, said one of the members.

"To impart proper computer knowledge to students, it is essential to have specialised teachers. So, the board agreed on the requirement and mulled to forward the proposal for the same to the state government," said Varsani.

He also said that the increasing work burden on the board officials was also discussed. Members said that after the implementation of the semester system exam, the work pressure has increased and so the board also agreed on the need for an additional post of examination secretary and a proposal should also be sent for government's approval. Members felt the additional post would lessen the burden of the current examination secretary and secretary.
