Gujarat bans tests of kids and interviews of parents for admission

Primary schools in Gujarat will not be allowed to conduct aptitude tests of children and interviews of the parents for admissions from the new academic year beginning in June.

State government today issued a statement informing about the ban.

An education department official said that "a school found violating the norms for admission will have to pay Rs25,000 as penalty first time, and Rs50,000 thereafter".

At the time of issuing advertisement, the schools must state what the admission process would be, how many seats are available for reserved categories, etc.

Any child, whose parents are ready to pay school fees, should be given the admission, irrespective of the social status of parents, according to the official statement.
