GTU: Appointment of practical examiner to be monitored

Taking practical exams lightly and under a friendly examiner may well be a thing of the past from now onwards at the Gujarat Technological University (GTU). GTU authorities have geared up and decided to monitor appointment of examiner for the practical exams to keep the examination a strict and transparent affair.

According to the GTU vice-chancellor Akshai Aggarwal, they have come to know about instances where colleges sought to depute specific professors for the duty of examiner in practical exams.

"Sometimes the reason would also be that the college authorities and the specific examiner would be friends or say 'hand-in-gloves'. This would allow students to take liberties in practical exams and also get help from teachers and fellow students," said he.

Citing such episodes as eye-opener, Aggarwal said that this time they have taken extra precautions to give duty to examiner. After checking the past background, GTU would keep it secret and depute examiner to avoid any 'hand-in-glove' situation. The move will not only bring transparency in the practical exam but it will be a real test for students of around 400 colleges affiliated with GTU.
