Getting it ‘write’: SSC Hindi paper in Maharashtra

Paper writing skills play a very crucial part in boosting the performance of students appearing for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination. Only writing the correct answers is not enough. It is also important to present your answers in a cohesive manner and highlight the important points to score some extra marks.

Schoolteachers give some valuable tips to students to write better answers in exams, especially subjective papers such as Hindi. “If you do not remember the name of a poet or an author, do not leave the space blank; instead, use writer / poet in place of the name,” said Anita Makashi, Hindi teacher at Modern English School, Shivajinagar.

Makashi also stressed on the importance of writing down the question number, saying that it was absolutely important while writing the paper.

Giving tips to the SSC examinees, Anita said, “Many a times students forget to write the question numbers, especially when they attempt essay writing. But they must write the question number, as it becomes easy for the examiner to check the papers.”

“Students should answer the brief questions, but they can add a little more information to it, if they know more. Even if you have to answer three questions out of five in the brief question section, you can attempt all five if you are confident,” she added.

Likewise, if you know two questions out of five and if you know a little about the third, you can write whatever you know. This will fetch you at least one mark, she said.

While dealing with the grammar section, you can underline or highlight the answers. For example, if you have to identify the conjunctions, underline the words that you have written.

For short sentences, attempt all, if you know the answers. What usually happens is that while writing the meaning of a word, students write the correct meaning, but make mistakes while using them in sentences.
