Get tech-savvy, Narendra Modi tells ITI students

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has an advice for students and pass-outs of Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) in the state: "Get tech-savvy and add value to your profile".

Modi was speaking at an event in Gandhinagar on the occasion of the handing over of appointment letters to 2,477 candidates for the post of supervisory instructors at various ITIs in the state. Current students as well as those who had passed out of the institutes were present at the event.

The CM instructed ITIs to impart training in soft skills to students as this would help shape their personalities. He appealed to the students to become tech-savvy and to add value to their profiles by acquiring new skills.

"Students need to concentrate on three 'S'- scale, skill and speed," he said. Modi also highlighted that the technical field offered immense possibilities for growth in the coming years. He said that the state government was working closely with industries to impart need-based skill development training to youth at the institutes.

He pointed to the fast industrial growth and the fact that the state was emerging as the largest automobile hub in Asia. He said the state government had also decided to focus on developing the ship-building industry.

Modi informed the audience that the government had recruited 2.50 lakh people in the past decade, and it was set to recruit 60,000 more in the current year.

Also present at the function were labour and employment minister Vaju Vala, agriculture minister Dileep Sanghani, health minister Jaynarayan Vyas, as well as minister of state for labour and employment Liladhar Vaghela, among others.
