Fifth ‘Savera’ school for slum kids opens in Ahmedabad

The fifth Savera School for slum children, a Vidya Bharti Foundation Initiative, was inaugurated at the Blind People's Association, near IIM Ahmedabad, on Monday.

The event was inaugurated by PK Lahiri, former chief secretary of Gujarat.  Also present at the occasion were Ramesh Patel, CMD Meghmani Group of Industries and Bhushan Punani, executive director, Blind People's Association. The infrastructure and drinking water facilities for the school have been provided by the Blind People's Association, on it premises. 

The other four centres of Savera are at Sabarmati Riverfront, which is being taken care of by the JMC Group and is financed and supported by them, Apang Manav Mandal, Vastrapur, and one at Kadi and Pandit Deendayal University, run by the students of the university. Around 30 to 35 children in the 5 to 15 age group are taught basic subjects by volunteers from institutes such as CEPT, at the Blind People's Association from 5 to 7 pm. The children belong to the nearby slum areas of IIM, Ahmedabad.
