ShareAhmedabad, Ahmedabad: Engineering students in the city will no longer have to lose their sleep over finding books that are part of their curriculum but are difficult to get. All that they need to do is click the mouse and access the portal www.books10.org. The site will upload all the books that form part of an engineering student's curriculum. The portal will also have space mentioning contact details of students who want to re-sell books at reasonable prices.
The idea of the portal is the brainchild of city-based engineering graduate Jatin Chaudhary, an engineer in information technology from Nirma University.
The portal is part of his venture, a market research company, which he soon plans to launch along with his batch mates Hiren Panchasra, Dharmesh Kubawat and Harshad Patel. The market research firm, Point10 Solutions, will cater to corporate houses.
While the firm will charge its client for the services rendered, the portal can be accessed free of cost. Chaudhary said it is his way of doing something for the society. He said the idea of a web portal came from his own experience as a student.
According to the entrepreneur, engineering students often find it difficult to get books prescribed for their curriculum. At times they have to settle for old and worn-out books, because new books are not available or are exorbitantly priced. "I come from a family of modest means. When I was a student, I found it difficult to procure engineering books," said Chaudhary.
"Either the books were unavailable or they would be too costly for me to afford. But if a student can access the book on the web for reference, it will solve both problems," said Chaudhary.
He said they intended to upload books of all branches of engineering. The portal, which is under construction, will be operational in a short time.
"Initially we will cater to engineering students. Later on we plan to cover other professional courses and streams," said Chaudhary.
He said he also plans to convince students from his batch, who belong to well-to-do families, to sponsor the books of at least one student who cannot afford it."I plan to approach 47 of my batch mates, who are financially sound, to convince them to sponsor the books of one student each," said Chaudhary. To avoid copyright issues, once they upload the books on their portal, Chaudhary said they would post a 'disclaimer notice'
