Develop management cadre in-house

As corporates in India deal with post-recession recovery and plan for future growth, finding adequately trained management personnel has become a challenge. Responding to this need, the PGPX course by Mumbai Business School, in association with Kennesaw State University, is designed to move careers of working professionals to the next level.

Dr. Michael Salvador, director, executive education Programmes, Michael J Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University, explains, “We are more dedicated to global learning than most business schools. Plans are underway to launch a Centre for Indian Studies.”

Company managers get to a point after 10 to 15 years where some  management education is necessary.

The PGPX course offers customised curriculum, designed to focus on the soft skills, mid-career and aspiring managers need to understand leadership principles and manage human capital. The programme comprises of five ‘7 to 9’ consecutive day ‘core’ sessions, spread over 16 months, with two to three month break between each ‘core’.

The first core is a comprehensive review for the participants’ basic business acumen. The second covers the management of business strategy, including all of the modern tools and techniques used to plan and operate a business.

The third focuses on management of an enterprise, with emphasis on human capital. The fourth takes all the learning-to-date and overlays a global view, with participants travelling to the U.S.A to the Coles College.

Participants will get guest lectures by US-based executives from Atlanta. The fifth and final core will summarise all learning, and feature a computerised business simulation as a team learning experience.

Each participant will have a designated mentor from their company other than the person to whom they directly report. Both the mentor and mentoree will be guided on conducting a virtual process of career analysis and planning for the entire length of the programme.

The participant will also identify a project to be conducted at the end of the program that is specific to the company, such as evaluating expansion to another country, divesting existing business, developing new business process or out-sourcing one, etc.

“It is a chance to better manage  succession planning and retention of mid-managers targeted for future management positions,” Dr. Salvador feels.

Dr Sunil Rai, CEO, Mumbai Business School, underlines that Indian companies are looking internally for those with leadership abilities to propel growth because these people know all about the company philosophy and value system.

“The PGPX programme ensures alignment between individual aspiration and company imperatives. It is essential for retaining and grooming in-house talent. It adds a very real strategic value to the business,” he emphasises.
