Design mecca NID to celebrate golden jubilee in style this year

With the completion of its 50 years of existence following its foundation in November 3, 1961 The National Institute of Design in the city will be celebrating its golden jubilee this year.

The golden jubilee year will be declared during the institute's annual convocation in December.

Vice-president of the country Mohammad Hamid Ansari who will be present at the institute's annual convocation will formally launch the institute's golden jubilee celebration.

Talking about the celebration,  director of NID Pradyumna Vyas said, "While NID will be entering its 50 years of existence by the end of 2010 the existence of formal design education in the country will also be entering its 50 years of existence as design education in the country started with the launch of NID."

As a part of the institute's celebration of golden jubilee year, NID will be conducting a series of activities and events for the next twelve months beginning from December.

"A long list of events is in the pipeline as part of the celebration of the golden jubilee year," Vyas said.

Some of the events include travelling museum across the country, international film festivals, international seminars and workshops, book launch, setting up new facilities and so on. The director also said that the alumnus of the institute will also be involved in the institute's golden jubilee celebration in various ways.

"We are also collecting, stories, designers' works and case studies on how design has made impact on the society in general. The preparation for the celebration has begun rigorously," Vyas said.
