Deferment rumours rife a day before BCom exams

Rumour, they say, spreads like wildfire. Third-year BCom students in the city will agree with that. The one question on the minds of third-year BCom students of Thane College who had gone to collect their hall tickets on Monday was whether their examinations, which are scheduled to begin on March 21, are being postponed.

The rumour soon spread to other city colleges and confused students rushed to ask their college authorities to confirm their suspicion.

What appeared to give credence to the rumour was the academic council's meeting on Monday at the University of Mumbai's Fort campus, which was attended by most college principals.

Dr TP Madhu Nair, dean, faculty of commerce, was seen giving repeated clarifications rubbishing the rumour. "The examinations will be held on time. Students should not believe in such rumours."
