Change class XI stream by December 19: GSHSEB

For all those students finding it difficult to cope with studies in the first semester of class XI (science), here is some good news. The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHEB) on Saturday issued a circular to allow switching from science to general stream. GSHEB officials said that science students would be able to switch streams till December 19.

The decision was taken at exam committee meeting recently held at Gandhinagar. Officials said that the decision was an extension of the system before implementation of the semester system.

“Even before the semester system, science students were allowed to switch to general stream. So, in the examination committee meeting, it was decided to extend this option even to the semester system,” said a senior GSHEB official.

According to officials, many students are forced to take up science due to parents’ pressure, but they find it difficult to cope with it. The decision to allow a change has been taken to benefit such students and help them shape alternate career.

The officials, however, clarified that the general stream students would not be allowed to switch to science stream. This is because students would find it difficult to catch up with the curriculum followed in the science stream, especially the practical lessons.
