CBSE to start management programme for senior teachers

As a part of its ongoing reform process, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is all set to start its first management development programme on effective school management, to help  teachers run their schools in the best possible manners.

The CBSE has tied up with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, New Delhi for running the course.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan,  will host the programme from May 16 to 20. Principals, vice-principals, heads of departments and senior teachers, working in various CBSE-affiliated schools across the country, can participate in the programme.

A sum of Rs10,000 will be charged as fee for teachers who attend the programme as non-residential candidates. For teachers who want residential facilities, the CBSE is yet to decide on the fee structure. Sources at the CBSE said that it would be decided soon.

Interested candidates should fill up the registration forms available on the CBSE website — www.cbse.nic.in
Candidates should send the registration forms, to Dr Sadhana Parashar, head (innovation and research), CBSE. The last date for receiving the duly filled registration forms is April 30.

Sources at CBSE said that the idea of holding such programmes was to make CBSE-affiliated schools more successful. “CBSE has introduced a lot of reforms in the past few years. The board’s reforms focus not only on changing the curriculum and the way board exams are conducted, but also on bringing overall changes in the way a school functions. The forthcoming programme is targeted towards this effort,” a CBSE official said.

Talking about the selection procedure of candidates, Vineet Joshi, chairperson of CBSE, said;  “Preference will be given to the principals, vice-principals,heads of the departments, and senior teachers who have never attended any training programmes  conducted by the board.”

CBSE has been conducting training programmes for principals in “strategic management and leadership” in collaboration with various management institutions including Indian Institutes of Management, National University of Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi and other management schools of repute. Most of such programmes conducted by the board had received excellent response from the teachers.

The overwhelming response from the principals of affiliated-schools had made the board explore other avenues for providing training to heads of institutes since the intake for such courses were limited, said Joshi.

Based on the feedback received from various stakeholders, the board has decided to include a component of continuous and comprehensive evaluation (CCE) and various examination reforms that have been initiated by the CBSE recently in the programme.

“The course content of all the training programmes by CBSE has been dovetailed to suit the need of the hour, and to make them more suited to the school scenario,” Joshi explained.

About 11,550 schools in India are affiliated to the board. The board also has 153 affiliated-schools in 23 foreign countries. The CBSE is one of the 41 boards in the country.
