Candidates relieved by CAT free of glitches

The second phase of the highly competitive Common Admission Test 2009 (CAT-2009) for admission to the Indian Institutes of Managements (IIMs) was conducted without any glitch on Sunday. Prometric, the Indian subsidiary of the US-based testing agency Educational Testing Service (ETS), and the seven IIMs conducted the exam.

The online test was held across three test centres in the city in two time slots — 12pm and 3pm. Much to the relief of IIM aspirants, it was held without any technical errors or other problems cropping up.

“The test started 10 minutes early,” said Abhijit LN, a candidate who took the re-test. “It was conducted well and there were no problems at all.”

“The test was conducted smoothly without any glitches,” said Atul Jaiswal, another candidate who took the test at the Global Academy of Technology (GAT).

The second phase of CAT-2009 was held at the RV College of Engineering, Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology (MVIT) and GAT. In the first phase, the test was conducted at eight centres.

Candidates were relieved that for the second phase, the organisers had dropped test centres, like the Garden City College, that had seen several cancellations during the first phase of CAT-2009.

“I’m glad that better sense prevailed and that the organisers dropped Garden City College this time round,” said Rajesh, an IIM aspirant. If they had not, his confidence in the IIMs would have definitely been dented, he said.

Nearly 11,000 candidates attempted the second phase of CAT-2009 in 42 centres across the country. The results are expected to be announced in the third week of February.
