10 Pune teams selected for Supra SAE India 2012 finals
Ten teams from city have made it to the Supra SAE India national finals, to be held very soon. As per the results declared for the qualifying round held in January at Ansys company premises in Pune, a total of 65 teams are selected from all over the country.

Over 105 teams had competed for the virtual formula car design contest, wherein 15 teams from Maharashtra have made it to the finals, the highest compared to other states. The 65 teams will now conceive, design, fabricate, test, validate and run formula type cars for the finals. 

The teams selected from Pune are Resonance Racing (AISSMS College of Engineering), Sultanz of Speed (ARAI Academy), Triumphant Racers (Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering), Octane Racing (College of Engineering, Pune), Speeding Saddles (GH Rasisoni College of Engineering and Management), Acceleracers (Maharashtra Institute of Technology), Pegasus (PES Modern College of Engineering), Vamos Autocross (Sinhgad Academy of Engineering), Veloce 2.0 (Vishwakarma Institute of Technology) and Rusty Racelers (VIIT).

The concluding ceremony of Sinhgad Technical Education Society’s (STES) ‘Sinhgad Karandak’ was recently held at its cultural centre on Vadgaon campus, Pune. Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia and India’s former wicketkeeper and cricketer Kiran More were present to felicitate the winners in the sports competition.   

Also present on the occasion were MN Navale (founder president, STES), Sunanda Navale (chairperson, Sinhgad cultural centre) and Rohit Navale (founder secretary, STES Savitribai Phule Trust).
The forum of Sinhgad Karandak was initiated six years ago by Sunanda Navale for the all-round development of students.
A leading platform for the expression of multiple talents and various arts, ‘Sinhgad Karandak’ was inaugurated this year by renowned cricketer, Sanath Jayasuriya. A live musical concert by famous singer and musician, Lucky Ali, mesmerised the audience.

Coffee Day along with FLAME to offer scholarships
Coffee Day and FLAME (Foundation for Liberal and Management Education) have introduced the ‘Scholar Hunt’ programme. It is a unique scholarship opportunity of Rs5 crore for students seeking undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in several fields.
A non-profit initiative, it aims to sponsor eligible students for various educational programmes under FLAME and train them into becoming the leaders of tomorrow. To avail this scholarship, students are required to procure forms from Coffee Day outlets across all major cities. The selection criteria will be an exam to gain admission into the institute and then a screening process based on merit and proven economic and social conditions.
PCCOE students win TechnoCase-2012 competition
Students from Pimpri-Chinchwad College of Engineering (PCCOE), Geetanjali Dadage and Priyanka Deore were declared winners at a unique case study competition ‘TechnoCase -2012’ organised recently by the Institute of Industrial & Computer Management & Research-MCA (IICMR-MCA), Pune.

The two-day state-level competition aimed to bridge gap between industry and academia, with a focus on using case study as an effective teaching tool.

A total of 89 students in 33 groups from various city colleges took part in the competition. The groups were given a business problem and were made to present IT solution with the help of various UML diagrams. Six groups were selected for the final round. 

Students from Dnyanganga Institute of Career Empowerment and Research College, Sarvesh Dongrekar, Manjusha Naik and Omkar Ijantkar were declared the first runners-up. Tanmay Tatwawadi, Neelam Yangale and Akshata Sonawane from Sinhgad Institute of Management (SIOM) were declared the second runners-up in the competition.

Student enthusiasm witnessed at VIT Tech fest ‘Melange’
The five-day long student technical fest ‘Melange’ of Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT), which was held from February 22-26 on the VIT campus, ended on an exciting note. Various technical competitions were held during the festival, which got a huge response from the students. Different departments of computer, electronics, chemical, instrumentation, mechanical, production and industrial took part in arranging an array of competitions, witnessing lot of students’ enthusiasm.  

This year at Melange, workshops like ‘Make your own mobile’ organised by Campus Components, ‘Assembly and disassembly of automobiles’ by ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) and robotics workshop by Gudel India were held. There were competitions of dance, gaming, quizzes, poetry, handwriting analysis, nail art, tattoo making along with rock band performances and sports events.
