Campus Connect: LPF Fellows travel to the UK for leadership programme

The fifth batch of 14 Fellows of the city-based Lila Poonawalla Foundation (LPF) left for the UK on September 11 for a three-week transformational leadership programme and with a mission to spread message of harmony and peace. The programme is arranged by LPF in association with UK-based Asha Centre and the girls are accompanied on the tour by Lila Poonawalla (chairperson, LPF) and Firoz Poonawalla (founder trustee, LPF). These Fellows will undergo a comprehensive, transformational leadership training programme over the next three weeks where they will be groomed to become ‘peace ambassadors’. The training programme intends to improve their knowledge repertoire and help them learn about how to contribute towards bringing peace and happiness in  society they live in.

Henkel’s innovation challenge for students begins
The sixth annual Henkel Innovation Challenge has started this September wherein students from 25 countries are invited to participate. Students need to develop innovative ideas in teams of two for one of Henkel’s business areas: adhesive technologies, beauty care or laundry and home care. The concepts must be in alignment with sustainability strategy under the theme ‘Achieving more with less’. Students should consider how their new product or technology will drive progress along the entire value chain – from the selection of the raw materials through sustainable production and distribution processes, to its use and disposal. The challenge is open to students of all subjects, including economics, engineering and natural sciences. After the application period, selected students in each participating country will develop their project with the support of a Henkel manager and present it in national or regional semi-finals. The semi-finals will take place in February 2013. The winning team of each semi-final will get the opportunity to compete in the international final, which will be held from March 18-20, 2013, in Shanghai, China. City students showcase their dancing talent
As part of its silver jubilee celebrations, Kala Nritya, a city-based dance institution of Priya Parab, organised an inter-school and inter-college dance competition on September 8 at MES auditorium. Students from various city schools and colleges exhibited their talent in various dance styles of classical, folk, Bollywood, contemporary and freestyle. The best dancers in various dance categories were awarded prizes.

Symbiosis school bagged the best dancer in classical category and St.Joseph’s school in the Bollywood category. In the college category, Vidya Bhavan school bagged the best Bollywood dancer and Fergusson bagged the best classical dancer award. The overall outstanding performance in the college category was awarded to Fergusson College and in the school category to Vidya Bhavan school.
