The 44th annual convocation of Bangalore University will be held today at Jnanajyothi auditorium, Central College campus.

The governor of Karnataka, Rameshwar Thakur, will preside over the function and Justice Shivraj Patil and higher education minister Aravinda Limbavali will be present.

The number of candidates eligible to receive degrees under various faculties is 40,220,  of whom 30,019 are receiving their degrees on Thursday. Gold medals will be awarded to 132 students and cash awards will be awarded to 68. PhD degrees will be conferred on 208 candidates.

Among those who have won the highest number of gold medals are Jayanth Vyasanakere P (BSc), National College, Basavanagudi (11); Ashwin D Gowda (BA) National College, Jayanagar (10); Divyashri S (BE), UVCE (10); BS Vishwas (BCom), Vijaya College (8); Lija Antony P (BEd), New Horizon College of Education (8); Sunitha C (MSc) Bangalore University (8); Geetha K (MA Economics) Bangalore University (5); J Jo Anton Bino (LLB), Vivekananda Law College (5); Divya L (MCom), Central College, Bangalore (4); and Rekha B (MEd), Jnanabharathi Campus (3).

The University has arranged parking facilities for the invitees, awardees and other guests at Prasanna Kumar block on Palace Road and Gandhinagar cricket ground.

Honorary doctorates
This year Bangalore University is giving honorary doctorates to Sri Sri Ravishankar Guruji, Sri Balagangadharanatha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mutt, Prof M Shadakshara Swamy, environmentalist AN Yellappa Reddy, SHRC chairman Justice SR Nayak, singer C Ashwath, BLS Murthy, and RN Shetty.
