Bringing educational revolution through eBooks

Three hundred higher education eBooks covering the fields of management, engineering, science and humanities, from Pearson Education India will now be easily available to students across the country as a collaborative effort between Pearson and Attano, an eBooks portal.

Students from any part of the country having Internet access can now download books of their choice in eBook format from www.attano.com, which are available for iPads, android tablets, Windows PCs and laptops. Elaborating on how these eBooks will benefit the students, Soumya Banerjee (CEO, Attano) said that instant access to a wide range of interactive educational eBooks will allow the user to get the full value of interactivities, coverage reports, tests and assessments. In addition, she said, “With the Attano Reader made available, students can make notes, highlight important points and save bookmarks for quick revision.

A student can hold an entire year’s worth of textbooks in his or her hands bringing a whole new educational revolution to homes and campuses.”

The interactive eBooks are read with the Attano Reader, which is an app available for free download for personal computers, android tablets and iPads. In order to prevent piracy, eBooks are not printable, informed Banerjee.

Talking about the unique collaborative effort between Pearson-Attano, Banerjee, said that the partnership between a leading learning company and country’s first eBook store is a breakthrough in the Indian education space.

On whether the eBooks are recognised by UGC, AICTE and education providers, Kannan Srinivas (business head - digital products & publisher higher education at Pearson Education India) said that UGC and the other bodies do not comment on content or resources. “They are involved in framing curriculum and recognise educational institutes. We develop content based on the curriculum framework of the universities. Most of the universities across the country and globally prescribe our books as textbooks on account of the quality and research that goes into creating these books,” he said.

On the future plans, Srinivas said that more books will be added across engineering, management, sciences, humanities and other related areas.
