BIMS students design against Jaitapur Plant

While Anna's anti corruption drive has taught all, the importance of running any social drive professionally. Here's a team of B-School students which has created an effective module to fight against Jaitapur nuclear plant. Students form Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS) presented an action plan to create awareness against the Jaitapur Nuclear Plant for Greenpeace, an active organisation in the field of environment.

At JBIMS's annual inter b-school festival named Prayag, which this year had the theme of - 'be the change you want to see'; there was a even called 'B Social' to encourage aspiring managers to device effective functioning plan for different NGOs running social causes. At the final stage then, all the teams were asked to work out a plan for the Greenpeace, to help in its plan to enter the Jaitapur controversy to oppose the plan.

Saurabh Pandey, first year student of MMS at the JBIMS, who is member of the winning team whose recommendation the Greenpeace will be taking up; said, "We had to design a complete plan for the Greenpeace to make their opposition to Jaitapur plant much more effective and of a kind that will instigate the required changes. This majorly included the communication strategies, marketing the social cause, media participation etc."

Pandey continued, "Recent media coverage has spread awareness but not many are aware of the intricacies of the issue. The villagers (farmers, laborers & fishermen) are most directly affected since it impacts their livelihood & survival."

"We discovered, citizen involvement with social causes on the increase post the Anti-corruption initiative; However, most are still keen on being armchair soldiers by supporting through social media initiatives & signature campaigns. Hence there is a need of establishing a comprehensive communication strategy - that will connect together ecologically savvy individuals, socially responsible citizens and well-informed youth. Special guest speakers who share similar views need to be roped in to the drive to catch more people's attention toward the social cause. This will help them realise importance of how much ever small contribution that is possible from their side. Importance of marketing the social cause need to be understood and modern day technological solutions like telemarketing and social networking should be exploited to create desired impact. While suggesting alternatives to the issue, all these aspects of any drive are equally important to nurture huge support from the masses to make it an effective drive," told Surabh.

According to information provided by Saurabh, the Greanpeace which will be taking up the team's recommendations to make their Anti Jaitapur Plant drive a much successful event.
