Bangalore University may offer undergraduate  course in movie production

Bangalore University (BU) is planning to launch a film institute and introduce an undergraduate course in film production.
Speaking at the inauguration of a two-day workshop on cinema on Monday, BU vice-chancellor N Prabhu Dev said that the varsity was in talks with the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy (KCA) to start the film institute and undergraduate course in film production. “We hope to introduce this programme in the next academic year,” he said.

The workshop, organised by KCA, Suchitra Film Society and Acharya Film Society, was inaugurated at Priyadarshini Auditorium, Badami Hall.

The workshop covers several facets of film-making such as the technical aspects, film appreciation, criticism and review, the development of cinema and cinema and the government and other industry organisations.

Regretting that cinema had not been give the prime space in academics, N Vidyashankar, secretary, Suchitra Film Society, said students needed to gather knowledge of the modern visual culture and learn film appreciation, review and film critiquing.
“This workshop is a beginning and we hope to take this further by introducing film societies in colleges and organising monthly screenings and discussions to understand cinema,” said TS Nagabharana, chairman, KCA.

Participants at the workshop will be awarded certificates from KCA, Suchitra Film Society and Acharya Film Society.
The resource persons at the workshop are HN Narahari Rao, TS Nagabharana and Prakash Belawadi with course co-ordinator Abdul Rehman Pasha.
