Bangalore University gets into critical thinking to enhance academics

Bangalore University (BU) has come up with a vision document for 2020, which has many measures to improve academic atmosphere. One such important measure is to convert existing departments into schools and initiate inter-disciplinary collaborative research in bio-medical devices, energy technologies, water technologies, and pollution and green technologies, by 2014.

BU also plans to set up a land development council in 2011 to develop an asset of over 1,000 acres to maintain a green initiative project — this will be done by planting 1 lakh saplings.

The university has several other initiatives in the pipeline. By 2015, it plans to establish a public institute in collaboration with the Planning Commission and World Bank. It also plans to establish a biology initiative with Isro and Nasa and create a disaster management council with facility to train anti-terror squads, citizenry and faculty members, and students. Plans are also on to establish national and international placement centres with facility for industry academic interactions, by 2015.

The university will shortly have its very own Bangalore University FM channel. To assemble its alumni, the alma mater will create a forum called the Friends of Bangalore University. The varsity will also broaden its horizons by rejuvenating and strengthening its foundation to face the influx of foreign universities in the near future.

The university also intends to create a knowledge hub where every problem affecting the society is addressed to the faculty for resolving the issue.
