Amdavadis, brace yourself for weeklong music blitzkrieg

Musicians and music lovers are in for a treat as the city prepares to host some of the top musical acts from across the country and beyond. The first glimpse of lightning was heard in Gandhinagar on Wednesday when Euphoria kicked in.

The mood will then get mellow, the lull before the storm, as Jagjit Singh takes the stage at the Louis Kahn Plaza at IIM on Thursday. The revelry will get all into a tizzy when IIM-A starts its rock competition, Blizzard of Rock, where bands from all over India will compete for pride and glory on Jan 21.

Things will only get better then. Kryptos, the Bangalore based heavy metal act will take the stage the next day at the IIM campus and if that is not enough, the evening will be headlined by Led Zepplica as they dish out the immortal music of Led Zepplin.

Led Zepplica is a tribute band that plays (read: eats, breathes, lives) like the legendary group it is named after and considered by many as the best rock act of all time. The feast will round off with a DJ Nite with Akbar Sami belting out his tunes.
Before you can complain about aching necks and sore feet, Avial may already be doing their sound check at the CEPT campus on the 23rd evening. Avial, a well known name on the national rock circuit, play a fusion of alternative rock and native folk songs of Kerala. If that doesn't suit your ear buds you can get a glimpse of KK and Isha Sharvani performing at IIM the same night.
The madness continues the next week as CEPT hosts Metamorphosis, which is its annual Battle of the Bands, a part of its yearly cultural festival. If your ear drums haven't shattered yet, The Bicycle Days, the psychedelic superheroes of the south, will be in town to play at the CEPT campus on the 29th. Their performance inculcates artful lighting, trippy visuals and psychedelic music that holds enough promise to drift you into space.
Bands and local musicians, on the other hand, are geared up and can be heard practicing in their jam rooms and colleges into the wee hours. With various other college cultural fests lined up soon thereafter, there is little room to complain. Arm yourself with passes (and perhaps some neck balm) and put on your dancing shoes, please!
