After MCA, it is turn of Gujarat's engineering students to protest

After the Master of Computer Application (MCA) students, almost 18,000 engineering students of Gujarat Technological University observed a strike across the state on Friday to demand for removal of session exams.

The session exams are taken by the respective colleges.
The students also want the number of ATKT trials to be doubled.
At present only four ATKT trials are allowed for the 4-year course, students want it to be increased to eight.

In the city, many students of LD Engineering College gathered at
the GTU's main office in the morning to meet vice-chancellor Dr. Akshai Aggarwal. Since he was out of station the students had to wind up their demonstration.

The main cause of discord is the 30 mark 'sessional' exam conducted by the respective colleges.

The final exam papers of BE comprises a 70 marks exam conducted by GTU, and a 30 mark exam conducted by the college.

According to the rule, if a student fails to acquire 14 out of 30 marks in the college exam, he will be declared failed, even if he passed the main exam of 70 marks.

Students want this college level exam to be removed immediately. They want the GTU to adopt the old paper style, where Gujarat University conducts a 100 mark exam.

The students also claimed that results of almost 8000 students have been detained because of the four ATKT trials. These students want this system to be more liberal and demanded eight ATKT trials through out the course.
