A practical learning experience for India First Foundation School

Last Saturday, March 24, 2012, witnessed a very special group of visitors at the DNA printing press, Mhape, Navi Mumbai. The students of India First Foundation School, Karjat were provided this unique opportunity, whereby they got an introduction to the publishing process and an overview of what it entails. They were given a detailed demonstration of the machines, the printing plates, the dyes used and the other essential equipment used in the press. The visit helped them realise just how much time and effort goes into bringing their favourite newspaper at their doorsteps every day.

Teachers Seema Somashekharan, Shashikant Chahande, Seema Sharma, Dilshad Ahmed and Vinod More expressed happiness that their students got a detailed overview of the production side of media world. Dr. Vijayam Ravi, trustee and director-education had given the direction for this visit.

Trustee Velji Mange who also accompanied the students, said, “This is the first time that we have visited a printing press. It will give the students a lot of knowledge about the production of newspapers and also inspire their interest in the field of media from this young age.” An engaging and entertaining quiz contest was held, where the questions focused upon the aspects that they had seen and learnt at the press. Class VII student Ananya Bangera, said, “Initially I was not aware how newspapers are printed and distributed to vendors but after my visit to DNA printing press I came to know about all the processes. It was amazing and very interesting. One of the best things I learnt is that we can get fruitful results through hard work and teamwork.”

Bhoomi Gori, Class VI student, shared, “Initially I was surprised to see such big machines but later on as the team explained the process, I became familiar with them.”

Laxmi Kotian, Class VII student, emphasised, “I was very excited about the visit because I had only heard about the media but never seen how it functions. I was all the more enthusiastic after seeing such huge machines. DNA team explained us the processes of how the news papers are printed and how it is delivered to the vendor. It was great a learning experience.
