A’bad to mentor Jaipur IIM
The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has decided to mentor the IIM-Jaipur, and has communicated its decision to the Central government.

The IIM-A’s decision is in line with the Central government decision to set up new IIMs across the country with the older IIMs mentoring the new ones.

“Which established IIM would mentor which new one  has to be decided on the basis of proximity of campuses,” said IIM-A director, Samir K Barua. “IIM-A has decided to mentor IIM-Jaipur because, of the new IIMs that are coming up, the Jaipur IIM would be the nearest in distance to IIM-A.”

Barua further said that the established IIMs’ mentoring of the new campuses would be different from the old IITs’ mentoring of the new Indian institutes of technology.

“We can’t afford to mentor the new IIMs in the same way as the established IITs have been doing for the new IITs,” Barua said. “The infrastructure and the size of the institutes are different. We will help the new IIMs in training of staff and faculty besides helping them in framing courses and deciding procedure.”

New IIMs are to come up in Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Haryana.
