Who was Mughal Emperor Akbar’s first wife?

Akbar was one of the most prominent Mughal kings that ruled over India from 1556 to 1605.

Akbar, son of Humayun, ascended the Mughal throne when he was just 13 years old.

He was the third emperor of the Mughal dynasty who had conquered two-thirds of the Indian subcontinent by the end of his reign.

The Mughal King Akbar, known for his progressive policies and cultural advancements, had multiple wives during his reign.

Among them, his first wife was Ruqaiya Sultan Begum. Ruqaiya Sultan Begum was a cousin of Akbar and the daughter of his paternal uncle, Hindal Mirza.

She was married to Akbar when he was just 14 years old.

Ruqaiya Sultan Begum remained childless throughout her marriage.

She was the Mughal queen for a period of 48 years (1557 - 1605). Ruqaiya Sultan Begum passed away in 1626, at the age of 84.
