How much of world's gold is still undiscovered? Where is it hidden?

Riddhima Kanetkar

As per USGS reports, about 244,000 metric tons of gold has been discovered to date (187,000 metric tons historically produced plus current underground reserves of 57,000 metric tons)

USGS has said that currently 57,000 metric tons of gold is buried under the ground

Most of that gold has come from just three countries: China, Australia, and South Africa. America is fourth on the list

All of the gold discovered so far would fit in a cube that is 23 meters wide on every side

Most of the gold that is fabricated today goes into the manufacture of jewelry, but it is also an important industrial metal used in computers, communications equipment, spacecraft, jet aircraft engines, etc

In 2022, worldwide gold production stood at 3,100 metric tons. China was the largest producer of it and accounted for around 10 percent of total global production

It is estimated that US has 3000 metric tons of gold, Australia has 8400 metric tons, and Russia hs 6800 metric tons of gold which is yet to be extracted
