Sandeep Patil, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team and former opening batter, briefly served as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team.

Patil served as the head coach of the Indian team during the tour of England in 1996. Unfortunately, due to unsatisfactory results, he was swiftly relieved of his duties.

Madan Lal, the former lead pacer of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team, served as the coach of the Indian national cricket team for a period of one year.

Lal served as the coach of Team India for one year during the 1996-97 season. Under his guidance, the team achieved notable victories against Australia and South Africa on home soil.

In 1999, India's 1983 World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, made a return to the national team as head coach. However, this decision ultimately proved to be a nightmare.

During Kapil Dev's tenure, India suffered humiliating defeats in Test series against Australia and South Africa, both at home and away.

Ravi Shastri, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, is one of the longest-serving head coaches of the Indian cricket team.

Shastri assumed the role of interim coach for the tour of Bangladesh in 2007, before being appointed as the team director for a one-year term from 2014 to 2015.

He served as the interim coach from 2015 to 2016 and then assumed the role of head coach from July 2017 to November 2021.
