7 symptoms of liver damage

Ritik Raj

Fatigue: Since the liver is essential for the metabolism of nutrients and the removal of toxins, prolonged unexplained fatigue is frequently a sign of liver problems. Weakness and chronic fatigue can be symptoms of liver dysfunction.

Swelling: Liver issues can cause fluid retention and swelling, especially in the legs and abdomen. The swelling condition known as ascites can be brought on by insufficient albumin production, a protein that aids in controlling the body's fluid balance.

Abdominal Pain: Usually, the upper right side of the abdomen, directly below the ribs, is where liver pain or discomfort is felt. This can feel dull, aching, or sharp, and it can be caused by inflammation, an enlarged liver, or liver congestion

Weight Loss: Unintentional weight loss can result from conditions such as liver cancer, cirrhosis, or hepatitis that alter the body's ability to absorb nutrients, burn fat, or regulate appetite.

Changes in Stool, Urine Colour: Liver problems can result in changes in the colour of the stool and urine. Pale or clay-colored stools can be caused by a lack of bile pigment, whereas excess bilirubin can cause dark urine.

Jaundice: The yellow pigment known as bilirubin, which is created when red blood cells break down, is not adequately broken down by the liver. It could be an indication of a number of liver conditions, including hepatitis, cirrhosis, or bile duct blockage.

Itchy Skin: When the liver is not working properly, bile salts accumulate in the bloodstream, which can lead to pruritus, or itching.
