Chandrachur completed his schooling at The Doon School, Dehradun and graduated from Delhi University. After graduation, Singh became a History professor at Doon. 

Chandrachur wanted to be an actor, but his parents wanted him to be an IAS officer. Thus, he started preparing for the same. One day, he got to know that Amitabh Bachchan was looking for fresh faces for his production, ABCL Corp Ltd

After convincing his parents, Chandrachur went to Mumbai for auditions. The actor managed to bag his debut film with Arshad Warsi in Tere Mere Sapne (1996).

After Tere Mere Sapne, Chandrachur was seen in several films like Daag-The Fire, Sham Ghansham, Josh, and Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya.

In early 2000, Chandrachur met with an accident after falling from a jet ski in Goa. The actor's shoulder got badly dislocated, and doctors advised complete bed rest. This break affected his career

During his sabbatical, Singh gained a lot of weight due to heavy medication. In 2012, Chandrachur made his comeback with Chaar Din Ki Chandni. Years later, he was even seen in the series, Aarya, and the movie Cuttputli.

In his personal life, Chandrachur Singh was married to Avantika, and they have a son, Shraanajai Singh. Chandrachur and Avantika got separated a few years after their marriage, and Chandrachur took responsibility for Shraanajai.
