Chandrachur did his schooling at The Doon School, Dehradun and graduated from Delhi University. After completing studies, Singh became a History professor at Doon.

Chandrachur wanted to become an actor, but his parents wanted him to become an IAS officer. Thus, he started preparing for the same. One day, Singh got to know that his idol, Amitabh Bachchan was looking for fresh faces for his production, ABCL Corp Ltd.

Chandrachur convinced his parents and went to Mumbai for auditions, and that's how he made his debut with Arshad Warsi in Bachchan's maiden production, Tere Mere Sapne (1996).

Although Tere Mere Sapne wasn't successful, Singh left a mark. That's why Gulzar selected him for his directorial Maachis (1996) without any audition.

From the late 90s to early 2000, Singh was seen in several films like Daag-The Fire, Sham Ghansham, Josh, and Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya.

In early 2000, Singh met with an accident. While riding a jet ski in Goa, Chandrachur fell from the ski after his hand slipped off and his shoulder got badly dislocated. Doctors advised him to bed rest, and that dented his career.

Due to heavy medication, Singh gained a lot of weight, and it impacted his career. Chandrachur made his comeback with Chaar Din Ki Chandni. He was even seen in the series, Aarya, and the movie Cuttputli.

Chandrachur Singh was married to Avantika, and they have a son, Shraanajai Singh. Chandrachur and Avantika got separated a few years after their marriage, and Singh took responsibility of Shraanajai. Chandrachur believes that being a single father is tough, but he is happy as Shraanajai calls him the "Best father in the world."
