In the 1956 Hindi fantasy film Hatim Tai directed by Homi Wadia, P. Jairaj's titular character undertakes a dangerous journey to save a young fairy, played by Shakila, who turned to stone.

The 1984 Malayalam-language fantasy film My Dear Kuttichathan is the first Indian 3D film. Remade in Hindi as Chhota Chetan in 1998, it revolves around a mystical genie called Kuttichathan.

The 2011 fantasy-actioner Ra.One is based around how its titular antagonist, played by Arjun Rampal, and the superhero G.One, essayed by Shah Rukh Khan, come out from a video game and battle it out in the real world.

Known in the Hindi belt as Makkhi, the 2012 fantasy film Eega, helmed by SS Rajamouli of Baahubali and RRR fame, is about how its protagonist reincarnates as a housefly to avenge his death and protect his lover.

Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Ayan Mukerji's fantasy adventure Brahmastra: Part One Shiva revolves around the fight to protect the strongest weapon in the existence of mankind, Brahmastra. It is the highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022.

Amar Kaushik's fantasy horror-comedy Bhediya, released in 2022, is headlined by Varun Dhawan, who gets bitten by a wolf and transforms into a werewolf at night. Kriti Sanon stars as the leading lady.
