The 23-year-old said she always struggled to tell left from right, and as a solution got this peculiar tattoo on her hands.

The communications student had always faced this problem, embarrassed often to make the 'L' shape with her hands to determine which way is left. But, she got determined to do something about her navigation skills after being elected team leader during a scavenger hunt at a party.

After giving a few wrong directions to the driver, a friend drew an 'L' and 'R 'on her hands, and Laine joked about getting the letters tattooed.

On February 3, D'Kodia finally got the ink done by tattoo artist Lauren Winzer at Hunter & Fox, a tattoo studio in Australia.

"It started as a joke but it's actually super useful and I don't look dumb making an L with my fingers to figure it out," she said.

While growing up D'Kodia faced increasing ridicule for her terrible navigation skills. "My friends would joke about how silly it looks having an adult make the L shape with your hands to differentiate," she said.

After getting the tattoo done, D'Kodia told Daily Mail Australia that she got humorous reactions from friends when she sent them photos of the finished tattoo.

"I just got a lot of laughing back and [messages like] "oh you were being serious!"," she said.

Who was the happiest after Laine got the tattoo done, you ask? It was her boyfriend! "He's grateful that now he won't get secondhand embarrassment!" she said.

Tattoo artist Lauren Winzer shared a photo of the tattoo on her Instagram page which has till now garnered over 4.5k likes and several hundred comments saying that the tattoo resonated with them.  "Not only are tattoos cute, but they can also be super functional !!! good luck with all ur future directions happy to help guide you @dkodia," Winzer wrote in her post.

"Me when I learn to drive," said one user. While another user added, "Omg I cannot tell you how much I want this tattoo."

"Based on the comments on the photo on Lauren's page it seems to be a tattoo a lot of people are saying they need so I don't feel too dumb now," Laine added.
