Our campaign in the second edition of the Indian Cricket League has been a mix of hits and misses. The team has been playing well in patches but the difference between promising teams and champions is of consistency and overall effort. When our batsmen came good, the bowlers did not perform up to the mark and vice versa. Even our fielding has not been up to the standard we expected and that has also cost us at times.
I joined the team only for the second edition of the Indian Cricket League and playing the tournament opener against the Ahmedabad Rockets was a fantastic experience. The atmosphere here is brilliant and ever since I have enjoyed every bit of my stay here.
Having said that, it’s the on-field performance that has been frustrating. Apart from one match against Lahore Badshahs, I got off to decent starts scoring two thirties and two twenties but have failed to build on and make a decent score.
In fact, that has been the case with most of us and that is one of the main reasons for the position we are in. We began badly against Ahmedabad Rockets but managed to beat Chennai Superstars and Delhi Giants to stay in the semi-final race, which is definitely going down the wire with five teams having a realistic chance to join the Lahore Badshahs in the last four.
Our first aim from here on is to seal the semi-final berth as soon as possible and Tuesday’s match against the Mumbai Champs would be crucial. The Champs are no more in the race but they have pride to play for and that could be a tricky situation.
Thankfully for us there are no major injury worries, barring a few niggles. Our bench strength is also promising and that gives us more options. However, everything will depend on how we play in the next three games.
We haven’t played anywhere near our best so far and if we can manage that in the next three games then we know no one can stop us.
