MADRID: Britain's Andy Murray produced a determined display to stun world number three and third seed Ivan Ljubicic of Croatia 6-4 3-6 6-3 in the second round of the Madrid Masters on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Murray has crashed out in the first round of his last two tournaments but was on top form against Ljubicic who started the game with nine wins from his last 10 outings.

Murray, ranked 19 in the world, put last year's finalist under pressure from the outset and took the first set with a single break of serve.

He looked to have let his chance slip when Ljubicic eased ahead to take the second set but after matching the Croat in an evenly-balanced third Murray broke, then held firm on his serve and took the match with an ace.
