BPO worker ‘gang-raped’ in Pune

As many as 10 men, including cab drivers, allegedly gang-raped a 22-year-old woman call centre employee of IBM Daksh at Phursungi, 16km from Pune.

PUNE: As many as 10 men, including cab drivers, allegedly gang-raped a 22-year-old woman call centre employee of IBM Daksh at Phursungi, 16km from Pune. 

The incident, which took place on the night intervening Thursday and Friday, came to light when a friend visited the victim at a private hospital. The police are trying to ascertain how she landed at this hospital. The victim, in a state of shock, was shifted to Sassoon Hospital on Saturday afternoon. The police said there were holes in the friend’s version. The timings mentioned by the friend involving the cab’s arrival and departure is not mentioned in the company’s log book, they pointed out.

Roma Nawani, general manager (corporate communications) IBM Daksh said, “It is an unfortunate incident. The local authorities are investing and we are fully co-operating with the police. Any further action would only be decided once the facts are ascertained.”
