Army Chief General Bikram Singh visits Drass region on Friday morning to pay tribute to the martyrs of the 1999 Kargil War in Jammu and Kashmir. This year marks the 15th Anniversary of Kargil War and a special homage will be paid by the Army at the Drass War Memorial on July 25 and 26.

The war and its heroes are remembered every year since 1999, as the Army observes the day as "Vijay Divas". A lot of soldiers laid down their lives in Kargil district during the conflict between India and Pakistan. 

There have been many inspiring stories of soldiers who lost their life battling for the country. He died fighting in Kargil in 1999. But ensured Rukhsana, his foster daughter, continues to receive sustenance long after he was gone "enjoying the hospitality of Apsaras (fairies) and watches over his family from the skies above".
