Delhi police today claimed to have unearthed an unauthorised godown storing illegal firecrackers and seized nearly 2,500kg of the material stored there along with arresting a man in this connection.
Acting on a tip off, police raided the godown owned by one Dinesh Chand in Madan Gir and seized 2,465kg of illegal firecrackers stored there for sale on the occasion of Diwali.
The raid was conducted on October eight.
"He had stored the illegal crackers in an unauthorized godown which is located in a densely populated residential area, and any untoward incident could result in loss of life and property," a senior police official said.
"By discovering this illegal godown and seizing those crackers, loss to life and property has been prevented," the official said.
