During the coronavirus period, people were troubled by the idea of electricity being expensive, but the Yogi government has given them relief news before the festival.

80 percent domestic consumers to get relief

The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation suffered a lot during the coronavirus lockdown. In such a situation, the Power Corporation was preparing to hike the rates by changing the slab instead of directly increasing the electricity rate. For this, the Corporation sent a proposal to the State Electricity Regulatory Commission. Had this proposal been implemented in the state, it would have a direct impact on the pockets of domestic consumers. But the regulatory board has given relief to 80% of domestic consumers by rejecting the proposal for now.

What was UPPCL's proposal?

UPPCL had secretly sent a proposal to the Electricity Regulatory Commission. In the proposal, it was proposed to reduce the 80 slabs of electricity rates to 53. Except BPL, it was planned to make three slabs for urban household and two slabs for commercial, small and medium industries. If this proposal was considered, the change in the slab of electricity rates could have increased the electricity rate by 3 to 4%. The Consumer Council had also stressed that the proposal to change the slab should be considered only when there is a 16 percent reduction in electricity rates.

Smart meters in question

UP Electricity Consumers Council had requested Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma that after the corona crisis, the income of the people has decreased, and in such a case that the electricity bill should not be increased. The problems related to smart meter load jumping and power cuts do not seem to end either. In the Saubhagya scheme, electronic meters installed in Etawah have been reported to have been installed without a unit, which is questioning the quality of these meters.
