The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will swing into action against party plots from July 6 onwards. The owners have been issued final notices and spot inspection has already been completed. There are around 171 plots in six zones of the city.
AMC’s estate and town planning department officials have been instructed to start taking action against party plot owners. "We have instructed our staff and the three-day exercise will start from July 6," said Utpal Padia, DMC of AMC's estate department.
Fearing strong opposition from the party plot owners, the civic body has asked for help form the police department. The party plot owners believe that they have time till July 15. However, Padia said that the notice published in the newspaper does not bar them from taking action against illegal constructions as well as sealing party plots that have violated norms.
"If the party plot owners get the plans approved by July 15, we will unseal the plots," said Padia. Party plots can be set up only in space measuring 2,000 square meter area and 50% of this should be reserved for parking. AMC had issued notices to party plot owners on October 24, 2009 and had given them time to present their case and submit approved plans by Nov 12, 2009.
The notice to the party plot owners were issued as per the decision taken by the Kamal Mehta Committee appointed by the Gujarat HC with regard to illegal constructions in the city.
