Priyanka Chaturvedi explains the reason behind her quitting in a letter addressed to Rahul Gandhi.

Disappointed over the party's decision to reinstate men who misbehaved with her at a press conference in Mathura some time back, Congress national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi on Friday quit the party. Later in the day, Priyanka Chaturvedi joined Shiv Sena in presence of Uddhav Thackeray.

In a dramatic turn of events, she first left all the WhatsApp groups affiliated to the Congress where she was part of. Then she changed her Twitter bio and later shared a letter written to Congress President. Priyanka Chaturvedi in her letter said that many things culminated to make her take the decision of leaving the party.

Chaturvedi said that she feels not being valued, in an oblique reference to not being given ticket. However, the fact that those who misbehaved with her have been welcomed back to the party fold was the proverbial last straw. Priyanka Chaturvedi said that although the party promotes women empowerment, it is not followed by all members and sometimes rules are relaxed for sake of election.

"In the last few weeks, certain things have convinced me that my services are not valued in the organisation and that I have reached the end of the road. At the same time I also feel that more time that I spend in the organisation will be at the cost of my own self-respect and dignity," Chaturvedi said in a letter addressed to Rahul Gandhi.

"What saddens me is that despite safety, dignity, empowerment of women being promoted by the party and has been your call to action the same is not reflected in the action of some of the members of the party. A serious incident and misbehaviour against me by certain party members, while I was on official duty for the party, has been ignored under the guise of all hands needed for elections. This indignity to me has been the final factor to convince me to move on and focus on other things outside INC," she wrote.

Priyanka Chaturvedi said, " I know I will be held accountable for my past statements and my views and that how I came to this conclusion but I would like to say that this decision of joining Shiv Sena I have taken after a lot of thought".

Here is the circular from Congress party which says that people who were pulled up have been again welcomed back to its fold.
