Thala Ajith's Viswasam is all set to achieve the non-Baahubali record in Tamil Nadu in the next few days. The film has already crossed the Rs 122 crore gross mark, and the state-wide distributor share has already touched Rs 70 crore. Only three films in Tamil Nadu have achieved the feat of Rs 70+ crore distributor share and Ajith has made his first entry in the club with Viswasam.

The movie directed by Siva will soon cross the Rs 130 crore gross mark and will become the second highest-grossing film ever in Tamil Nadu by surpassing Sarkar, 2.0 and Mersal. The film has crossed the Rs 170 crore gross mark from worldwide theatrical sales already. However, Viswasam will not be able to break into the all-time highest-grossing Tamil films worldwide where the top five movies are dominated by 2.0, Enthiran, Kabali, Mersal, and Sarkar.

"Had Viswasam arrived as a solo release like the all-time grossers, it would have definitely entered the elite list. The very fact that it has garnered nearly Rs 125+ crore in Tamil Nadu alone while releasing alongside another massive and highly anticipated film like Superstar Rajinikanth's Petta, is itself is a great revelation," informs a Chennai-based theatre owner, on the condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, producer TG Thiagarajan of Sathya Jyothi Films has also said in a recent interaction that Viswasam would have easily surpassed the records of Mersal and Sarkar if it had come as a solo release for Pongal 2019.
