According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 63-year-old actor felt it was only fitting that the original Star War cast were nowhere to be found in the first trailer of the movie because it was important to focus on John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac's characters.

Hamill said that when he first heard about the project he knew it would not be their story because they had a beginning, middle and an end. The Big Red One artist didn't even think he would be included in it again and so felt some relief after passing the spotlight on to the next generation.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which also features Hamill's original trilogy co-stars Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, is set to be released on December 18, 2015.
