The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards were held at the Nokia theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Saturday Night Live alumni and Late Night show host, Seth Meyers.

The Major Winners-

- In its last year competing at the Emmys, Breaking Bad swept the awards with its win as best drama series, best actor for Bryan Cranston, Best actress for Anna Gunn and best supporting actor for Aaron Paul. The show also won best writing in drama. Read more.

- A favourite in several categories, True Detective only managed a win for best direction in drama.

- Julianna Margulies won best actress in drama for The Good Wife.

- In comedy, Jim Parsons won best actor for fourth time while Julia Louis-Dreyfus won best actress for Veep. Both Parson and Louis-Dreyfus have won for the second consecutive year.  Read more.

- Ty Burrell won best supporting actor for the second time for Modern Family and Allison Janey won best supporting actress for Mom.

- Academy favourite Modern Family took home best comedy for fifth year in row beating out newcomer Orange is the New Black. 

- Benedict Cumberbatch won Best Lead Actor and Martin Freeman won Best Supporting Actor in TV miniseries for Sherlock : The Last Vow.

- Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates won Best actress and best supporting actress respectively for American Horror Story: Coven.

HBO once again made its presence felt as they lead the nominations for the 66th annual Primetime Emmy Awards. The introduction of critically and commercially acclaimed show True Detective starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as well as the HBO original film The Normal Heart were expected to put up a strong show for the cable giant. Netflix once again proved that this is the time for internet streaming companies as they had racked up 31 nominations this year.

Cult fantasy show Game of Thrones had landed the most nominations with 19, followed by FX’s dark adaptation Fargo, which picked up 18 nominations, submitting their nomination in the miniseries category. FX’s cash cow American Horror Story: Coven was third with 17 nominations.

Game of Thrones led all nominees with 19 and pushed the premium cable network's overall nods to 99, the most of any network for the 14th year in a row.

In another cross-over from film, the Fargo mini-series, based on the cult movie from the Coen brothers, managed to get 18 nominations, including best actor in a mini-series nods for both lead actors, Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman.

Orange is the New Black, Game of Thrones, and Saturday Night Live were the top winners at the Creative Arts Emmys . Saturday Night Live won five awards while Game of Thrones, True Detective and Sherlock: His Last Vow won four awards each. Uzo Aduba, who plays Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren in Orange is the New Black, won the award for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series. Billy Crystal honoured his longtime friend, late Robin Williams at the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards. According to Emmy cast executive producer Don Mischer, the 66-year-old actor was the "logical choice" to present the award because of his history with the late 63-year-old comedian, Fox News reported. -Breaking Bad won the Best Drama series.

-As expected Modern Family won best comedy series for fifth year in a row.

-In a stunning upset, Bryan Cranston won the best actor in a drama series for Breaking Bad. Mathew McConaughey was also a favourite to win this award for his role in True Detective.

-In his acceptance speech Cranston told the' sneaky peaks' to not settle for mediocrity. "Rekindle passion and fall in love all over again," he said

-Moira Walley-Beckett of Breaking Bad wins for best writing in drama.

-Anna Gunn of Breaking Bad wins for best supporting actress in drama

- In a bizarre ploy for audience attention while the CEO of the Television Academy Bruce Rosenblum gave his speech, Sofia Vergara is made to rotate on a pedestal next to him. Read more.

-Cary Joji Fukonaga of True Detective wins for best direction in the drama category.

-Billy Crystal talks of the 'brilliance that was astounding and the relentless energy that was thrilling' as he remembers the late Robin Williams. A clip of William's first appearance on the Late Night Show was also aired.
